Course Overview

The Pre-Sea Training Course for Deck Rating at MMA is the starting point for individuals aspiring to join a ship’s deck department. This programme equips trainees with the fundamental knowledge, practical skills, and discipline required to serve as deck ratings on merchant vessels, supporting navigation, cargo handling, mooring, and general shipboard operations.

Students undergo a combination of classroom-based learning, practical workshops, hands-on On Board training, and essential safety training in alignment with STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers Convention) requirements, making graduates eligible to work on merchant ships worldwide.

Course Structure:

The programme is conducted in three phases:
Phase 01 – Main Programme (4 months)
Phase 02 – Mandatory STCW basic short courses (1 months)
Phase 03 – Onboard training on our own fleet of vessels (3 months) and obtaining the Watchkeeping Certificate from the Merchant Shipping Secretariat

Minimum Entry Criteria

Age between 18–24 years
Minimum of 6 “S” O/Level passes including Mathematics, Science, and English
